about

On his 2012 release Just Because, Jéan P The MC finds strength
within his own path: "If I don't motivate myself then who will?". On that mixtape Jéan P decided to celebrate his recent appearance on MTV alongside Sway, Trinidad James & Juelz Santana by doing what he enjoys most...releasing music. Fast forward to the now 27 year old Jéan and you find himself asking a simple question...Which Way Is Up?

Which Way Is Up? not only gives props to the 1977 Richard Pryor film, but it has become a personal mantra for the Ohio emcee attempting to find his way in life. On "Santiago" Jéan raps: "Only the strong survive, a dream is simply a wish if you ain't got the drive." This album not only shows musical progression but also progression of his manhood.

In authentic fashion Jéan is known for his vivid and nonchalant story telliing, on this album it sounds as if he is giving fans a peak into an audio diary. Songs like "It's All Good" reveal a story of Jéan befriending a therapist who is later revealed to be a fraud. He raps, "You took care of me as if you were a sponsor, was to vulnerable to even see the monster." The albums mood alternates. "Just Another Day" plays out as Jéan rhymes over more upbeat production outside of his boom bap comfort zone. The ability to take listeners on a emotional rollercoaster is Jéan P The MC's forté.

In the recent political circus, Jéan steps away from his own story to tap on his feelings about our "current situation in office" on "Mr. President". "The land where my fathers died letting freedom ring/ Washington wasn't my daddy come from Kings and Queens/ Wake up on the TV watching CNN/ Cuz every story that I see is like I see an end."

Production duties are courtesy of Tha Audio Unit, LAKIM, Trumaine Jordan, and Brotha-Gif. Which Way Is Up also features lyrics from Keilyn, Elijah Lamar, Flatilne Rel and Sarob.

Clocking in at only 11 tracks, Jéan P continues to keep listeners in awe and waiting for more in store from Canton's self proclaimed "Hometown Hero".
